I drew this piece because I was deeply inspired by the teaser trailer for season three, part one, of my favorite show, LEGO Ninjago. I am always immensely inspired to create drawings because of that remarkable show, and I find myself constantly sketching things related to its captivating universe.

I especially love this piece because it is not a direct screenshot from the trailer itself. Instead, there is a scene in the trailer that occurs only moments before this drawing, and from that moment in the trailer, I was inspired to illustrate what I think might happen immediately following that scene.

I wanted to challenge myself with the lighting in this artwork because the original scene is quite dark, featuring bright smoke that emanates from the pod positioned in front of the character on the left. Having a bright light coming from beneath a character isn't something I typically do in my drawings, but I had a very enjoyable time experimenting with this approach and finding new ways to depict light and shadow.
