Who am I?
My name is Katie, and I am currently pursuing a major in graphic design at Montserrat College of Art, and am on track to graduate with my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2026.
I grew up in a small town located in upstate New York, where I shared many wonderful moments with my beloved fur baby and emotional support animal, Gracie Lynn, a calico cat with a big attitude.
Growing up, all I ever did was create illustrations. I found immense joy in drawing, and my parents supported my passion by allowing me (without their knowledge) to paint freely all over the walls in my room growing up.
When I entered high school, I began to take my illustrations a bit more seriously, focusing on refining my skills and developing my style. Around this time, i transitioned from my traditional form of artmaking to a digital form. As my senior year rolled around, I took the bold step of opening up commissions, and I have been actively pursuing them on the side ever since, enjoying the opportunity to share my art with others.
When I began my years with Montserrat, I had no intentions of becoming a designer. In fact, I actually strongly disliked using the Adobe products and would do everything within my power to avoid utilizing them. However, during my very first semester, I decided to enroll in a graphic design class. During that class, something remarkable clicked for me. I unexpectedly fell in love with graphic design and the various things I could achieve with it.
As time went on, I gradually discovered my inner passion for design, along with a range of skills that I didn't even know existed, which had finally come to the surface. This realization sparked a journey of exploration where I slowly figured out how to harmoniously bring together both sides of artmaking—design and illustrations—into my work, creating a unique blend of creativity that truly resonated with me.
Now, I am a very confident designer who effectively utilizes all of the various tools in my creative toolbox to bring ideas to life.
