TRON Abstract Movie Poster

Tron is a 1982 American science fiction action adventure film written and directed by Steven Lisberger from a story by Lisberger and Bonnie MacBird. The film stars Jeff Bridges as Kevin Flynn, a computer programmer and video game developer who is transported inside the software world of a mainframe computer where he interacts with programs in his attempt to escape. Tron, along with The Last Starfighter, was one of cinema's earliest films to use extensive computer-generated imagery (CGI). Its sequel, Tron: Legacy is a 2010 American science fiction action film and is the second installment in the Tron series whose director Steven Lisberger returned to co-produce.

TRON: Legacy is undeniably one of my favorite movies of all time. My dad and I share a passion for science fiction films, and he certainly influenced my appreciation for this particular movie many years ago.

During my time at Montserrat, I took a poster class and was tasked with the creative challenge of designing a movie poster while attempting to be as abstract as possible. Our main objective was to steer clear of conventional movie poster designs while still capturing the original essence and spark of the film.

For this project, I gathered a selection of screenshots from the movie online, including the iconic bike scene featuring Clu and the striking code text that Sam Flynn inputs at the beginning of the film, which ultimately leads him into the game. I carefully outlined several screenshots and overlapped them. Additionally, I sought out a font that closely resembled a classic code font, allowing me to replicate the code found in the movie.

I made a concerted effort to adhere to the classic TRON color palette of vibrant blue and vivid orange. I also experimented with overlapping shapes and colors to the best of my ability in order to truly enhance that abstract visual style. I absolutely loved every moment of this project, especially given how much I adore the film itself.
